Deep in thought

Boredom

This painting is all about shapes and colour. I drew two characters to start within a frame, enhanced  by doodling and elements of design. In the end after many layers of gouache and some application of watercolour crayons, I tried   to achieve balance and harmony. When the face were drawn towards the end of my process I saw the women on the right looking moody and lost in thought hence the title!

An author ‘s inspiring story from Facebook

I was totally inspired by Chimamanda’s full TED Talk about the danger of a single story which appeared on Facebook. For more information about this subject…here is the link  http://bit.ly/2utmnE5

This portrait was done with brushpen and gouache. I was not sure about the background colour so I used my computer to do a mock up before deciding on this golden yellow.  She is such a solar subject that a sunshine colour seemed the right choice !

I was inspired by a video on You tube done by an artist called JelArts who showed how to paint with gouache (thank you for sharing). I simply tried her technique which seemed to be very impressionistic  involving lots of spontaneous brush strokes. So here is my version of her  “blue dog”.
