This painting is all about shapes and colour. I drew two characters to start within a frame, enhanced by doodling and elements of design. In the end after many layers of gouache and some application of watercolour crayons, I tried to achieve balance and harmony. When the face were drawn towards the end of my process I saw the women on the right looking moody and lost in thought hence the title!

Russian beauty
This portrait was done with gouache and brushpen on watercolour paper. I used a watercolour technique to do the flowery crown in a fluid and non specific manner as the main subject was the face. This time I applied the gouache in thin layers reminiscent of watercolour washes.
An author ‘s inspiring story from Facebook
I was totally inspired by Chimamanda’s full TED Talk about the danger of a single story which appeared on Facebook. For more information about this subject…here is the link http://bit.ly/2utmnE5
Gouache dog
I was inspired by a video on You tube done by an artist called JelArts who showed how to paint with gouache (thank you for sharing). I simply tried her technique which seemed to be very impressionistic involving lots of spontaneous brush strokes. So here is my version of her “blue dog”.
African lady
Inspired by the beauty and the colours of this subject I happily layered paint without removing the base application of gouache. I finished the print motif with ink sticks. So different from the watercolour approach!
Gouache portrait
Another trial with colour mixing on the paper and trying not to make “mud” with a too thick application of the gouache paint.
