This came as a reflection of the need to go within to go through tough times. The lockdown is putting us into an inward mood which allows us to get in touch with our deeper self, the untamed, the wiser intuitive self. This women made me think of a shaman who sees beyond the ordinary reality and wears extraordinary outfit to recover her wild self.
After having spent the weekend sewing masks with my sewing machine I decided to swap the material for some decorative paper and make a mask to protect this beautiful girl…
I enjoy the process of creating an outfit out of my mixed media cupboard…I start with a vague outline which I modify as I go along…Here I used collage,washi tape,acrylic paint, pastels,pencils, brushpen…all that done on mixed media paper.
I wanted to create a portrait of a woman wearing a striking dress which would reflect the light. At the same time I wanted it to be semi- transparent over the arms.I had great fun designing this outfit out of squiggles..and it was truely a mixed media adventure not knowing how to achieve the end result.So by experimentation I obtain the right effect for this design…
Let’s not forget our elders even if we can’t visit them in this period of confinement.A phone call away is better than nothing at all and total isolation…This portrait makes me think of the Queen (no intention in the making though) and especially today….we hope that her son Prince Charles will recover from the covid19 virus and wish her to remain strong and safe.
Nothing better than making a positive and beautiful painting to uplift your spirits…Just by looking at it.. I forget the doom and gloom of this trying period of confinement. La vie en rose is inspired by the Edith Piaf’song
