Normally the “boulistes”(bowls players) play the famous game “la pétanque” just in front of this chapel, but the other day the place was deserted. So I took the opportunity to grab a chair which happened to be conveniently placed there, and started sketching. What appealed to me were the very strong shadows onto the chapel façade, cast by the plane trees, with their amazing gnarled shapes .

This is the view of Le Suquet, the old Cannes, with an unusual quiet and peaceful atmosphere prior to events of all kinds, with the culmination of the famous film festival, attracting crowds of people from all over the world.

This morning, I met Lin Wolff, the owner of the English Book Centre in Valbonne. She kindly suggested I could put some of my original watercolour paintings in her shop for sale. Not only does Lin promote local artists, but she also supports authors organizing literary activities of all kinds. So for art lovers or bookworms , do pop in.

I was happily sketching in front of this really interesting old house in Antibes when the lady who lives there came to see me.  She happens to be an American artist in residence and loves this quaint house. She told me it was a popular house to paint as she saw several times artists gathering around it. It is such a feast of different textures that I could not resist to have a go myself !

A fish and chips stand shaped as a boat at the village fête of Sainte Blaise! It shows how multi-cultural our society is!

Walking along the port, we noticed this charming old fashioned boat nested in a forest of masts in the background.

I was walking in Cannes in a pedestrian area and discovered this beautiful door with two heads in its wood panel. The little one at the bottom looks like the face of the Green Man.

This is a statue created by a Swedish artist which stands along the seaside walk and cycling path in Cagnes sur mer. It makes me think of a beautiful flying mermaid!

I received yesterday a beautiful postcard from my goddaughter who was on holiday there.

I was struck by the geometry and the repetition of shapes and colours of the cityscape. Inspired by this visual play, I decided to do a sketch which would put the emphasis on that rythm not being too fussed about accuracy.
