Cagnes-sur-Mer : along the cycle track

Cyclists Cagnes sur Mer

This is one of our favourite cycle tracks along la Côte d’Azur, from Antibes to Nice “Promenade des Anglais”. Here are cyclists stopped at Cagnes-sur-Mer in front of the boat which is permanently anchored on the beach . I changed its name and colour to make it more sunny as the weather was particularly beautiful and clear that day. Yes even in late Winter you can enjoy a great outdoor life. All you need is to wrap up well!

Daffodils

daffodils

Light and flowers are very much the theme at the moment with the beginning of spring.

I used salt to give a sparkling effect at the top right hand side just to give more shine in the picture. Daffodils are great for their graphic contour and I like the sharpness of their forms.

The manufacturing of wine barrels in Bercy, Paris.

bercy-tonneau

Bercy village today in Paris is a very trendy shopping centre which was built in the 1990’s . In the past Bercy used to be an important wine market. This sketch is done from a vintage black and white picture. I chose a main colour which evoked wine . I know some people use wine to replace watercolour but this is not the case :  I don’t think I would have obtained the same transparency and  and I am not sure  the paper of my sketchbook would have taken it well…

Cros de Cagnes,catamaran launching

catamaran-cros-de-cagnes

Cycling along the coastal path, we stopped at Cros de Cagnes for a coffee just next to the sailing club. I love the small port there with its very friendly atmosphere. Sipping my cup of coffee and enjoying the warm autumnal sun rays…  I watched two men launching their catamaran in the water. They both were wearing a bulky yellow life jacket and I was particularly attracted by the bright sunshine going through the sails making the overall scene vibrant with colours.

A perfect French scene…

chezchristinejpg

We were having coffee at “chez Christine” in Provence and a friend who joined us said : “look Agnès, wouldn’t that be a perfect scene for your sketches with two symbols of French country life, the 2CV and a cyclist in one go!” “Yes of course” I replied, all is missing is someone appearing with a baguette and wearing a béret !
